Projects: Water Well
Water shapes life on this land, and our water well sits exactly where the land itself gathers and holds it. This is our journey to building our water well

The well was dug by skilled local workers, whose hands and knowledge are deeply connected to this region. By involving the local community, the process stayed rooted in tradition, care, and respect for the earth.
Its location was identified through a professional geo survey and careful observation of the land. The well rests at the lowest point of our food forest, right beside a monsoon-seasonal stream. During the rains, water flows gently downhill, guided by gravity, and naturally settles here—forming a living catchment shaped by the land’s contours.
To work in harmony with this natural flow, swales have been created along the slopes of the food forest. These shallow earth channels slow down rainwater, allowing it to soak deeply into the soil instead of running off. Multiple ponds have been dug at various levels on slopes to further help to replenish groundwater, ensuring that the water we draw is also returned to the earth.
Bringing water to Whispering Waters

The water from this well nourishes our food forest—an evolving ecosystem of fruit trees, native plants, shrubs, and ground cover designed to mirror the wisdom of natural forests. Deep roots, healthy soil, and thriving biodiversity are all supported through this carefully integrated water system.
Guided by permaculture principles, we see water not as a resource to extract, but as a cycle to honour. This well is part of a larger living system—where rain is slowed, stored, absorbed, and shared—helping the land remain resilient, fertile, and alive for generations to come.
